In November 2024, Missing Perspectives ran a piece on the intersection between strangulation and sexual choking. Using lived expertise, writer Lena Mountford explored this complex intersection to ask whether consensual sexual choking is a pathway to experiencing strangulation as a form of domestic and family violence.
This article will be useful to women engaging in sexual choking who are also experiencing domestic and family violence, as well as service providers and healthcare providers working with women who sit at this intersection. It includes commentary from Jackie McMillan (Women’s Health NSW) and Maree Crabb (the Breathless campaign).
